Got the winter blues? Wishing for an early spring? Chase away those cobwebs and get a preview of spring this weekend, with a favorite pastime not usually available in wintertime. Soroptimist International of Havre will offer Hi-Liners a garage sale Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p. m. located at the corner of Third Street and Third Avenue in the Masonic Temple building. All proceeds will be donated to various causes along the Hi-Line. Soroptimist Fern Lohse said the money isn't yet designated toward any cause. "It's just a co-op fundraiser at this time," she said. “We have various projects we donate funds to. One of the things we're raising funds for in the near future is the Sletten Cancer Institute here in Havre." Items for the garage sale came from the homes of the Soroptimist women, Lohse added. "Some of us are meeting tomorrow night, so I don't really know what everyone's got," she said. "I know there's a few men's things, books galore, videos, coffee We're just cleaning out our closets and getting ready for spring cleaning." Lohse said the Soroptimists are not accepting items from the community for this sale. "We do hope to hold another one, (where they might request donation) but nothing's definite yet," she said. Soroptimist International of the Americas is an international organization for business and professional women who volunteer in their communities. Almost 41,000 Soroptimists in about 19 countries and territories contribute time and financial support to community-based and international projects benefitting women and girls. The name Soroptimist means "best for women," and that is what the organization strives to achieve. Soroptimists are women at their best working to help other women be their best.
