Former President Bill Clinton met with tribal leaders from Montana's Indian reservations today to discuss his wife's, Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-N.Y.), campaign for the presidency. The session was held at 9:30 a.m. in the Donaldson Commons of Montana State University-Northern. Clinton told tribal leaders that when he was president, he felt the federal government had a good rel a t ionship with al l Nati ve Americans in the United States. He said the relationship with the federal government had not been the same since he had left office, and that presidential hopeful Hillary Clinton, would like to renew strong relations. Tribal leaders were allowed to present questions to the former president. Some of the issues tribal leaders raised involved Indian Health Care Services and water Rights. Clinton told the tribes that Sen. Hillary Clinton firmly believed health care was a right for all human beings, not a privilege, and if elected she would work to remedy the health care crisis in the nation, including the Indian nations. Photography was allowed for approximately 15 minutes, and at about 9:45 all media was escorted out of the meeting which continued.
