Vandalism strikes Chinook Golf Course reward offered

Special to the Havre Daily SHERI NICHOLSON

The Chinook Golf Course was a victim of vandalism between the hours of 10 p. m. Saturday, May 10 and 7:30 a.m. Sunday. Sometime during that period of time, it appears that a pickup, probably with a flatbed or hydra-bed tried to bust open the gate by backing into it, without success, but bent the iron gate. The occupants of the vehicle then proceeded to walk up to the club house and took joy rides in four of the new electric rental golf carts. In the process they ran over three boxes that house the electrical timers for the sprinkler system. When they hit the boxes they totaled one of the golf carts. They proceeded to drive over all of the greens and break a couple of the flags. The damage the golf course incurred during this incident is more than $50,000. Chinook Golf Course is offering a reward of $1,000 for information leading to the arrest of these individuals. If anyone noticed a vehicle backed up to the gate during that time or has any information regarding this incident please contact the Blaine County Sheriff's office at (406) 357-3260.
