Lawrence “Larry” Listou, 66, died of natural causes, May 22, 2008, at Northern Montana Hospital in Havre.
The funeral service will be 2 p. m., Tuesday, May 27, 2008, at the American Lutheran Church in Chinook with Pastor Ila McClenahan officiating. Burial will be at the Kuper Memorial Cemetery in Chinook. Following the internment a fellowship reception will be held at the American Lutheran Church in Chinook. Services and arrangements are under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home in Chinook. Larry was born Dec. 29, 1941, to Leonard and Martha (Hanson) Listou in Havre. He grew up in and around Chinook. He attended the country school north of Chinook and Chinook High School where he graduated. He worked on the family ranch north of Chinook. He loved to hunt and to work Hereford cattle. Larry even trapped for a while. He greatly enjoyed having people stop by to visit. He was a happy-golucky person who enjoyed uplifting those around him by making them laugh. He enlisted in the Montana Air National Guard and later transferred to the Army Guard in Chinook. It is rumored that he enlisted in the Guard so he could go to town once in a while. He was very proud of his military service and his 32-year membership in the American Legion. He was also an eightyear member of Chinook Lodge #50 A.F. & A.M. where he served as Tyler. In 1985 he met Betty Beecher Mudge. The couple married August 11 of the same year. He was a dear, kind, and loving husband. Betty was the love of his life. He will be missed by all who knew him. Larry is survived by his wife of 23 years, Betty Listou; son, Bob (Judy) Mudge of Cheyenne, Wyo.; sisters, Shirley (Lee) Brend of Bismarck, N.D., and Sharon (Max) Harshman of Cleveland, Wash.; granddaughter, Jessica Ann Mudge; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Leonard and Martha Listou.
