David J. Hawley Jr., 90, longtime farmer, rancher and heavy equipment operator passed away at his home southwest of Hays on May 24, 2008, due to natural causes.
Funeral mass services will be Thursday, May 29, 2008, at 11 a.m. at St. Paul’s Catholic Church with burial following at the Hawley Family Cemetery with military honors. Wake services will begin at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, May 28, 2008, at the Mission Recreation Center with rosary recited at 7 p.m. Arrangements are by Edwards Funeral Home of Chinook. Dave is survived by sons: Ronald Hawley, Francis “Cisco” Hawley, and Vincent “Poncho” Hawley, all of Hays; adopted sons: Dan Williams of Landusky, Phillip “Knobby” Stiffarm of Fort Belknap, and George Horse Capture of Hays; daughters: Eloise Gieser of Glasgow, Sylvia Boe, Kathie Hawley, and Nadine Hawley, all of Fort Belknap, Gloria Jean Hawley and Sharon Hawley, both of Hays, and Kristal Hawley-Fox of Harlem; adopted daughter, Judy Ashton of Billings; brother, Vernon Hawley of Pryor; 36 grandchildren; 62 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Hawley, in 1995 and son David “Buzz” Hawley in 2003.
