With the 2007-2008 school year now in the books, Havre's spring athletes were honored recently at the spring sports awards night held at the Havre High cafeteria. Highlighting the night was the annual announcement of the Havre High male and female Athlete of the Year. The male award went to senior Kyle Finneman, who has competed in football, basketball and track and field at HHS, while the female award went to senior Katie Mariani, who lettered 11 times in her career in volleyball, basketball and tennis. Awards were also handed out by the head coaches of all three spring sports. In track and field, Finneman and Jason Mudrow shared the Boys MVP, while senior Hanna Wells was named the Girls MVP. Senior Grayson Winsor was given the Vukasin Award and fellow thrower and senior Robert The Boy earned the Adams Award. In softball, senior Steph Stremcha was named the teams MVP, and she and junior Karly Evans shared the Workhorse Pitcher Award. Danika Patterson earned the Most Improved Player Award, Tabby Myers the Miss Hustle Award and Tiffany Ranes, the Coaches Award. Sam Mack, who was recently named Northwestern A Honorable Mention All Conference, earned the teams' Defensive MVP while Kelli Kelsey earned the Offensive MVP. Senior Jessica Obrecht was given the Whitney Schwan Most Inspirational Award. In tennis, on the boys side, all six Havre High players who made it to the Class A state tournament were voted Most Outstanding Player. They were, seniors Todd Roe, Brad Hanson and David Zentmire, juniors Mason Sheppard and Shane Kemmer and sophomore Kyle Miller. Junior Nolan Holden earned the Most Improved Player Award and sophomore Jake Ulgenes was named Most Inspirational. On the girls side, 2008 Class A state singles champion Katie Mariani earned the Most Outstanding Player Award, sophomore Christina Plum was named the Most Improved Player and junior Hope Hedges earned the Most Inspirational Award.
