The parents of a Fairfield soldier who was critically injured by a roadside bomb in Iraq are expected to take their son off of life support today. Army Sgt. Jimmy McHale, 31, has been in a coma since the July 22 bombing of his Humvee that also injured the driver. "He was just an awesome guy," said Trudy Hamann, McHale's aunt. "He had the biggest heart, the biggest smile. He was willing to do everything for everyone." Hamann said that after seeing a CAT scan Tuesday, McHale's parents, Joel and Bonnie McHale, decided to Remove their son from life support at the Walter Reed Medical Center in Maryland after giving loved ones time to say goodbye. "We ' re jus t sho cked, " Hamann said. "Bonnie and Joel say we do believe in miracles, but we know at this point there really can't be a miracle." Jimmy McHale, a graduate of Fairfield High School, had served two tours in Iraq. His older brother Michael is serving in the Army in Baghdad. Their father is a retired Malmstrom airman. (AP)
