Valley County investigates pot growing operations

The Valley County Sheriff's Department is investigating two suspected marijuana growing operations in the Fort Peck area and in Nashua. Sheriff Glen Meier said authorities served a warrant on Aug. 14, at a cabin in the Duck Creek area near Fort Peck and seized what they suspect is marijuana and several marijuana plants. On Aug. 15, authorities raided a greenhouse in Nashua and seized a "sizable number" of marijuana plants, which Meier said was the largest bust in county history. A search of various other buildings on the property Monday night revealed suspected marijuana, seeds and drug paraphernalia, Meier said. The sheriff said he couldn't release the number of plants that were found in either location, but the number in the Nashua raid exceeded the 100 or so plants seized in a 2006 bust near Fort Peck. That operation was capable of producing marijuana with a street value of more than $500,000 a year. No arrests have been made, but Meier said several suspects are involved. He declined to release any names. (AP)
