Albert W. Ulmer, 77, of Mendota, formerly of Fargo, N.D., died Saturday, Aug. 30, 2008, at his residence.
A private family service was held Tuesday, Sept. 2, 2008, at the First United Methodist Church of Mendota with the Rev. Mike Morrell officiating. Cremation rites have been accorded. Albert was born on Dec. 4, 1930, in Havre, Mont., to Albert E. and Hazel (Thomas) Ulmer. He married Mildred B. (Canon) Langley on March 22, 1958, in Minneapolis. He attended Northwestern Institute of Technology in Minneapolis and worked for Great Northern/ Burlington Northern Railroad for 42 years in communications. He retired in 1992. Albert was the state president of the Beekeeper's Association, pitched men's softball, played golf daily and was actively involved in the Zion United Methodist Church in Grand Forks, N.D. He also served in the U.S. Navy from 1950 to 1954 as an air traffic control operator. Albert was preceded in death by his parents, one sister and one brother. Survivors include his wife, Mildred of Mendota; four daughters, Kristene (Phillip) Wilson of West Chester, Ohio, Becky (Milt) Olson of Mendota, Amy Ulmer of Onalaska, Wis., and Ann (Alan) Kok of Beulah, N. D.; son, Peter Ulmer of Bend, Ore.; 10 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; sister, Kay Stevens of Great Falls, Mont.; and two brothers, Bill (Charlotte) Ulmer of Spokane, Wash., and Kenneth (Rita) Ulmer of Lincoln, Neb. Memorials may be directed to the Alzheimer's Association.
