Charlie Griffith, 84 of Gildford, died of natural causes at the Liberty County Hospital on Aug. 31, 2008.
Funeral Services were at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 6, 2008, at the Holland & Bonine Funeral Home with Pastor Eddie Fallo officiating. Burial followed at the Highland Cemetery. Charlie was born on June 9, 1924, to Frank and Josephine Griffith. He grew up in Alida, Minn. Charlie served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He farmed north of Gildford until he retired from farming in 1988. Charlie endured the difficulty of four years of living with the aftermath of a laryngectomy due to cancer. Through this struggle he experienced a transformed life after giving his heart to Jesus Christ and trusting him as his Lord and Savior. Charlie was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Josephine Griffith; sisters, Bernie Baurle, Irene Rountree, Mary Smith of Oregon, Clara Bakke of California, Fern Cartwright of California, Carol Steward of Oregon, and Florence Butler. He is survived by his wife, Esther Griffith of Gildford; a brother, George Griffith of California; two sons, Gary (Jan) Griffith of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Chuck (Diane) Griffith of Bozeman; one daughter, Liana (Mike) Cooper of Racine, Wisc.; five grandchildren, Shari (Matt) Winslow of Federal Way, Wash., Aaron (Morgan) Griffith of Federal Way, Wash., Cameron Cooper of Palantine, Ill., Michelle (Kris) Jenks of Franksville, Wisc., and Christopher Cooper of Racine, Wisc.; and three great-grandchildren, Suzannah Grace Winslow and William and Benjamin Jenks. Memorials are suggested to the Liberty County Hospital.
