Ken Rathbone of Lander died Monday, Sept. 2, 2008, at the age of 82.
A memorial service was held at 1:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 8, at the United Methodist Church of Lander. Ken Rathbone was born in Havre, Mont., on July 23, 1926, the son of Fay and Cora Rathbone. He graduated from Havre High School. Mr. Rathbone served in the U. S. military during World War II and, following his honorable discharge, he received a bachelor of science degree in business administration from the University of Montana. He married Maryann Kindschy on May 17, 1953, and they moved to Lander in 1954. Mr. and Mrs. Rathbone owned and operated the Gamble Store in the lander community, including membership in the Lander Chamber of Commerce, B.P.O. Elks Lodge, Lions Club, Sheriff's Posse, Sourdoughs and the Snow- Drifters. His family said he loved the outdoors and spent many weekends and vacations camping, horseback riding, snowmobiling and hunting. He is survived by his wife, Maryanne Rathbone of Lander; two daughters, Patricia Lamb of South Prairie, Wash., and Joanne Clyde of Peoria, Ariz.; six grandchildren; one great-grandson; brother, Donald Rathbone of Manhattan, Kan.; and sister-inlaw Laura Rathbone of Havre.
