Former Great Falls resident Fannie M. Granner, 85, of Havre, a retired bookkeeper, died of Alzheimer’s disease Monday at a Havre hospital.
At her request, no services are planned. Cremation has taken place under the direction of O’Connor Funeral Home. Her remains will be placed next to her husband’s at Hillcrest Lawn Mausoleum. Survivors include her daughters, Beverly Lewis of Great Falls and Barbara Caraway of Washington state; sons, Randal Granner of Havre and Paul Granner III of Salem, Ore.; her twin sister, Annie Sebby of Texas; 11 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Paul J. Granner Jr. Fannie was born in August 1923 in Orange, Texas. She married Paul Granner Jr. In 1944 in Brady, Texas. After living on numerous Air Force bases, she and her family landed at Malmstrom Air Force Base in 1956. She was office manager at the Base Exchange, as well as at Hested’s Department Store and Herberger’s Department Store in Great Falls until her retirement. Fannie loved to dance in her early years and had many friends. She never sat down at home unless she was eating, and she was always “busy.” She got to travel the continental United States and spent time in Japan. Her children remember her home-cooked meals, and her grandchildren remember her “famous” French toast. She spent her last moments on earth as she did her life, never giving up until the end. A special thank you goes out to the caregivers at Northern Montana Care Center for all of their loving help and concern, and also to her friends and neighbors she had in Great Falls who helped so many times in the past.
