Governor says no pay raise for state workers

HELENA

Gov. Brian Schweitzer said state workers won't get pay raises over the next two years, although some will get a one-time bonus. Schweitzer on Thursday announced new contract terms negotiated with unions representing state employees. The terms call for the state to increase its payment toward the cost of health insurance. Full-time employees paid under $45,000 a year would get a one-time bonus of $450. Those earning more would not receive the payment. Schweitzer said the agreement, which goes to the Legislature for approval, is fair for taxpayers and workers as the state confronts a difficult economic climate. The governor recently reduced his proposed spending plan for the next two years, amid predictions of falling revenue. (AP)
