Alice K. Meikamp, 87 passed away at her daughter’s home on Jan. 16, 2008, in Havre.
Services are pending with the Aebischer Funeral Home in St. Jacob, Ill.linois. Burial will take place in the Keystone cemetery in St. Jacob, Ill. Alice was born to Peter C. and Ella K. (Graff) Schiefer on January 5, 1921 in St. Jacob. She was educated locally and spent her entire life in the area where she worked at the local school as a cook. She met and married Elmer E. Meikamp on May 27, 1941. They later divorced. She was an avid quilter and was awarded for 50 years of service in teaching Sunday school at the United Church of Christ in St. Jacob. Alice recently moved to Havre to be with her daughter, Marjorie Purkett, and her grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers Milton and Wilbur Schiefer; her sisters Dorothy Fohne and Viola Schiefer. Survivors include her daughter, Marjorie A. Purkett of Havre; her daughters and sons-in-law: Marie and Gene Gansmann of St. Jacob, Ill., Kathy and Steve Genczo of Highland, Ill., Karen and Ernie Hellmich of Troy, Ill.; sisters, Irma Rinderer of Marine, Ill., and Pat Behrens of O’Fallon, Ill.; brother and sister-in-law, Earl and Donna Schiefer, and her brother Allan Schiefer all of Shiloh, Ill.; eight grandchIll.
