Havre Mayor Bob Rice said city workers this week stepped up to the plate to help the Havre High School girls softball team make improvements to the Sixth Avenue Softball Field. The team had been trying, but kept getting shut down with inclement weather. "They had some set backs," Rice said. Improvements made in preparation of Saturday's Havre Invitational tournament included cleaning up trash accumulated around the fences, painting and updating the entrance sign at the complex, known as Memorial Field. "The field is dedicated to people who played here and have passed on," Rice said of the field's name. The softball team's coach, Bob Evans, said the one-day tournament will be played on both the Sixth Avenue field and the field behind the hospital. The Havre Invitational gets under way at 10 a.m. on Saturday and will run all day at both locations.
