John “Jack” Harrington, 63, an adult probation and parole officer, died Sunday, July 13, 2008, at his home north of Chinook due to natural causes.
Memorial funeral services will be Friday, July 18, 2008, at 11 a.m. in St. Gabriel’s Catholic Church with burial following in Kuper Memorial Cemetery with military honors. Rosary will be held on Thursday, July 17, 2008, at 7 p. m. in St. Gabriel’s Catholic Church. Memorials in Jack’s name may be sent to the Gift of Life Housing in Great Falls or the Sletten Cancer Center in Havre or Great Falls. Arrangements are by Edwards Funeral Home of Chinook. Jack was born July 8, 1945, in Butte to John and Helen (Powers) Harrington. He attended grade school and graduated from high school in Butte. He also attended Montana Tech in Butte. Jack graduated from Montana State University-Northern in 2003 with a bachelor's degree in community service. This was one of Jacks proudest accomplishments. Jack joined the U.S. Army in 1963 and received an honorable discharge in 1969. While in the services he was on the U.S. Army Boxing Team and boxed throughout Europe. He married Darlene “Doll” Pomeroy on January 14, 1978, in Chinook. Jack worked in the law enforcement field for over 40 years. It was his life-long commitment. Jack was always joking and teasing. He had a wonderful sense of humor. He was a gentleman who was always compassionate but also strong in his beliefs. Jack was respected and loved by many people. His smile and Irish twinkle in his eye will be missed by many. Jack loved to read, do crossword puzzles and watch all sports on T.V. Jack loved golf and bowling and was on several leagues thru out his life time. He is survived by his wife, Darlene “Doll” Pomeroy of Chinook; his children, Shannon (Mike) Fiaschette, Jonathan, and Jolene Harrington, all of Portland, Ore.; brother, Ed (Patsy) Harrington of Butte; sisters, Donna (Gene) Lutey of Anaconda, Joann Vernos, Jeannie O’Brien, and Judy (Carl) Popovich, all of Butte; one granddaughter expected in November; and numerous nieces and nephews.
