INDIANOLA, Iowa
Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin will inject western issues into the presidential race, but won't win over all of the traditionally Republican stronghold, Montana Gov. Brian Schweitzer says. Schweitzer was the featured speaker at Iowa Sen. Tom Harkin's annual steak fry on Sunday, one of the biggest events of the year for Democrats. Schweitzer dismissed the notion that GOP nominee John McCain's choice for vice president hands the west to the Republicans. He says polls which show McCain gaining ground don't reflect Obama's support among younger people. More than 1,000 activists turned out for the event, a far smaller number than last year's 15,000 attendees who came to see multiple presidential candidates a few months before the state's leadoff precinct caucuses.
