GLADYS E. SUSAG obituary

Gladys E. Susag, 97, died Tuesday, Sept. 30, 2008, at the Northern Montana Care Center of natural causes.

Cremation has taken place and her graveside memorial service will be 1 p. m. Wednesday, Oct. 8, 2008, at the Highland Cemetery with Ila McClenahan officiating. She will be buried next to her husband Clairmont. Services and arrangements have been entrusted to Holland & Bonine Funeral Home. Gladys was born March 26, 1911, in Petersburg, N.D., to James Alvin and Emma Estelle (Waldrip) Barr. She attended country schools and worked on the family farm. Her mother died when she was a young girl. Her father ran a boarding house and Gladys worked there for him until she met Clairmont Susag. Gladys and Clairmont married March 16, 1940 at the First Lutheran Church in Havre. Clairmont worked as an engineer for the railroad and Gladys stayed home and ran the household, the couple did not have any children but had many close friends who they enjoyed. Gladys was a vey kind compassionate person, who deeply loved her husband, Clairmont, who was also her soul mate. They enjoyed the outdoors and were avid “rock hounds.” They traveled all over the state of Montana exploring new places and revisiting favorite old fishing holes. Gladys had a wonderful sense of humor and enjoyed playing cards until very recently. She loved animals of every kind, especially dogs. After her husband passed away Gladys’ companion for many years was her faithful dog, Boogie. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Clairmont Susag. Gladys is survived by her four grandnephews: James Frost; John Frost Jr; Michael Frost and Robert Susag, Jr. And two grandnieces: Cheryl Redmann and Debra Susag.
