ANGELINE DENNY SUTHERLAND obituary

Angeline Denny Sutherland, 99, died Thursday, Oct. 30, 2008, at the Northern Montana Hospital of natural causes.

Her wake service was Friday, Oct. 31, 2008, with her funeral service Saturday, Nov. 1, 2008, at the Rocky Boy Catholic Church. Burial was scheduled to follow at the Rocky Boy Cemetery. Services and arrangements have been entrusted to Holland & Bonine Funeral Home. Angeline was born May 15, 1909, in Fort McCloud, Alberta, to Alex and Louise (Gardipee) Denny. She was raised and educated in Rocky Boy. She married Peter Sutherland in 1926 at Rocky Boy. Together they made their home in Rocky Boy and raised their family. She was the oldest enrolled member of the Chippewa Cree Tribe. Angeline enjoyed sewing, cooking, reading and spending time with her grandchildren. Her kids and grandchildren were her life. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one son, Peter “Chano” Sutherland; three daughters: Agnes Swan, June Cox and Sharon Zampich; Travis Sutherland, whom she raised; one grandson, Kimball Sawyer; two brothers, George Denny and Walter Denny; two greatgranddaughters, Jen DeCoteau and Angie Swan; and three great-great-grandchildren. Angeline is survived by her daughters: Marie (Bill) Wilson of Great Falls; Frieda Ameline and Fern (Gary) Doney of Rocky Boy; and Pearl (Joe) Shendo Jemez of Pueblo, N.M.; sons: Clifford (Lydia) Sutherland and Daniel “Biddo” (Marilyn) Sutherland of Rocky Boy, and Frank (Neva) Merasty of Meadow Lake, Saskatchewan, Canada; three granddaughters whom she raised, Claudette (Curtis) Oats; Annette Sutherland and Rachel Sutherland, all of Rocky Boy; one grandson whom she raised, Kenneth Sutherland of Great Falls; one sister, Elizabeth Belgarde, of Rocky Boy; 39 grandchildren; 173 great-grandchildren; and 100 great-greatgrandchildren.
