Leslie J. Long Knife, 61; passed away Jan. 4, 2008, at his residence in Chinook due to natural causes.
Wake services began Wednesday at 5 p.m. in the Red Whip Center and funeral services were scheduled for today at 10 a.m. in Red Whip Center with burial following in the Buckman Family Cemetery. Arrangements are by Edwards Funeral Home of Chinook. Leslie was born on Feb. 28, 1946, to Martin Dale and Ada Nina (Snell) Buckman at Fort Belknap Agency. At the age of 9, he went to live with relatives and attended school at Fort Washakie, Wyo. Leslie was an auto mechanic most of his life and also did welding, carpentry and maintenance work. Throughout his life he enjoyed beading, singing, playing the harmonica and guitar. He also enjoyed keeping in shape by exercising and walking. Leslie was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Martin Buckman, Jr., Robert “Skipper” Buckman and Douglas Clyde Buckman, and a sister, Renee A. Hamilton. He is survived by brothers Charlie Buckman of Electric City, Wash., Mike Buckman of Belgrade, Ted Buckman of Grand Coulee, Wash., Harry Buckman of Salinas, Calif., and Rudy Buckman of Billings; sisters, Ruth Long Knife of Lodge Pole, Mary Lou Long Knife, Carol Wagner, and Betty Buckman Walls, all of Fort Belknap, Claudette Claymore of Billings and Martina Russell of Salinas, Calif., and numerous nieces and nephews.
