Muriel J. (Olsen) Martinson, 88, of Sun River, a homemaker, died of cancer Thursday, Feb. 7, 2008, at Peace Hospice.
Services will be held at a later date. Schnider Funeral Home is handling arrangements. Muriel Jeanette Martinson was born March 31, 1919, in Swift County, Minnesota, to Frank and Inga R. (Olson) Olsen. She attended elementary and high school in Success, Sask., Canada. She married Richard E. Martinson in 1942, in Sparks, Nev. Muriel was a farm wife until 1964, when the family moved from the Cottonwood community north of Havre to Great Falls, where they managed the Stukey Apartments. Richard passed away in 1978. She was proud of her Norwegian heritage and her family enjoyed her Norwegian dishes, especially clube, an oatmeal and ground potato flour patty filled with diced pork and boiled like a dumpling. Muriel’s hobbies and interests included gardening, knitting, sewing, playing cards, dancing to all kinds of music, attending her grandchildren’s sporting events and music activities, cooking and entertaining her family and friends. She was a member of the Cottonwood Home Demonstration Club and was a 4-H leader. Survivors include a daughter, Sharon Martinson of Great Falls; a son, Orin “Bud” (Sherry) Martinson of Sun River; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a sister, Alvera I. Caswell and a brother, Kermit Olsen.
