Chopper flies stoves to alpine chalet

KALISPELL

A nearly century-old chalet high in the Glacier National Park backcountry has new kitchen stoves delivered by helicopter. The Minuteman chopper that transported the two cook stoves also carried away two that had been in the kitchen at Granite Park Chalet for 53 years. Belton Chalets Inc. operates Granite Park, which was built in 1914 by the Great Northern Railway and provides summer lodging for hikers. Whitefish financial adviser Jim Stack and his wife, Lisa, led fundraising to buy the stoves. The National Park Service authorized the helicopter delivery. The chalet is at an elevation of 7,000 feet.
