LEIGH R. MORGAN obituary

Leigh R. Morgan, 83, retired civil engineer and land surveyor, died Friday, Oct. 3, 2008, at the Northern Montana Care Center of natural causes.

Cremation has taken place and at his request no services will be held. Memorial contributions in Leigh’s honor may be made to a memorial of one’s choice. Services have been entrusted to Holland & Bonine Funeral Home. Leigh was born June 25, 1925, in Chester to Matt and Katherine (Foote) Morgan, the youngest of six children. As a young child Leigh moved with his parents to Harlem and then to Havre, where he attended Havre Public Schools and graduated from Havre High School in 1943. He entered into the United States Army in July 1943 and served in Panama during World War II. He was honorably discharged as a Private First Class in February 1946. Leigh returned to Havre and attended Northern Montana College, then attended Montana State University, where he graduated in 1951 with his engineering degree. He married Arlene Hanson Jan. 6, 1947, in Havre. They lived in Havre and raised four children. Leigh worked as the city engineer of Havre from 1953 until 1960. He worked for two engineering firms, J.A. Fussell and then T.T. Heberly, before starting his own, Leigh Morgan Engineering. He taught surveying at Northern Montana College. Leigh was a very talented sculptor and carpenter. He served as a Boy Scout leader for many years and enjoyed the outdoors, camping and gardening. Leigh and Arlene traveled extensively during their sixty-one years of marriage. Leigh enjoyed teaching others and especially enjoyed working with children. He was preceded in death by hi s parent s ; a daughter, Kathleen Morgan; two brothers and three sisters. Leigh is survived by his wife, Arlene Morgan of Havre, a daughter, Barbara Morgan Elliott of Boulder; sons, Thomas Leigh Morgan and John Douglas Morgan, both of Little Rock, Ark.; grandchildren, Sarah Elliott of Butte; Heather (John) Willoughby of Colstrip; Hannah Elliott of Heart Butte; Sean Morgan and Elizabeth Morgan, both of Portland, Ore.; and great-grandchildren, Kylie, Beau, Olivia, Gavin and Ian.
