Doreen Miller, 78, went to be with our Lord on Nov. 10, 2008, following a brief illness in Billings.
Our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister will be truly missed by all. She was born Doreen Barker in Bismarck, N. D., was raised in Glasgow, Mont., and raised her family in Havre, Mont. Our mother was always there for her family, friends and the Havre community. Doreen worked as a business manager for most of her career and in her later years was an active volunteer dedicated to the North Central Senior Citizens Center, as well as numerous other community groups. She is survived by her sister, Yvonne Beck; brother, Chris Barker; children, Connie St. John and husband Pete, Debra Walston, Greg Dykstra and wife JoAnn, and Wayne Dykstra and wife Liz; as well as five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by the love of her life, Donald (Tobe) Miller; brother, Denny Barker; a grandson; and a great grandson. A memorial service will be held at the First Lutheran Church, 303 6th Ave., in Havre, on Nov. 21, 2008, at 12:30 p.m. A reception will be held following at the Senior Center. FRANCES NAPPIN SMITH obituary RONAN Frances Nappin Smith, age 92, passed away quietly Thursday, Nov. 6, 2008, at St. Luke Extended Care Facility in Ronan of natural causes. She was born March 16, 1916, in Peoria, Ill., the daughter of George H. and Jessie S. Nappin. Her early years were spent in the Peoria area. She married the love of her, Rob Roy (Bob) Smith, on Nov. 3, 1939. He served in the U.S. Army in WWII and upon his discharge in 1946, they moved to Box Elder where he was the manager for the Cowan & Son General Merchandise Store. Together they purchased the store in 1962 and operated it as B & F Shopping Center until his death in 1964. She then moved to Havre and worked at the Hill County Treasurer's Office. Due to complications of a stroke in 1988, she moved to St Luke Extended Care Facility in Ronan and has been a resident there since that time. She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Jessie Nappin; two sisters, Bernice Nappin and Marion Rhodes-Taylor; and her husband Rob Roy Smith. She is survived by her three sons, Lonnie (Marie) Smith of Ronan, George (Gail) Smith of Livingston and Cameron (Dawn) Smith of Great Falls; eight grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; and two nieces in Illinois. Her family would like to express their deep appreciation to all the employees who have helped her throughout her residency at St. Luke's. A celebration of her life was held in the chapel area of St. Luke Extended Care Facility in Ronan on Wednesday, Nov. 12, at 10:30 a.m. and private family burial service will be held at a later date. The family suggests memorials may be made to St. Luke Extended Care Facility, 107 6th Ave. S.W., Ronan, MT 59864 or a charity of the donor's choice.
