The Havre Ice Hawks high school hockey team is getting deep into its season. And with postseason play not too far off, the Ice Hawks were at home this weekend playing two games that had a postseason feel. Unfortunately, the Ice Hawks were up against the powerful Great Falls Americans, and the Americans swept Havre in two games at the Havre Ice Dome. On Friday night, the Americans blanked the Ice Hawks 4-0. The third period was the difference as Great Falls scored three times to put the game out of reach. Havre had played outstanding defense behind Adam Briese, Dylan Patterson, Cam Schilling and Paul Turner, and for the game, goalie Will DeVries, saved a remarkable 48 shots on goal. But the American's explosion in the third period proved to be the difference. On Saturday morning, Great Falls' offense kicked into high gear as the Americans downed Havre 8-3. Offensively, Havre managed to get on track with two goals from Kyle Miller and one from Mason Sheppard. Sheppard also had two assists in the game and Shane Kemmer and Nic Sunchild had an assist as well. DeVries still stopped 42 shots and was solid between the pipes all weekend long. The Ice Hawks (5-9-2) will continue their homestand this weekend with games against Helena on Friday and Saturday. Friday night's game will also be the night in which the Ice Hawks honor their 10 seniors. Sheppard, Kemmer, Turner, Schilling, Adam Briese, Beau Briese, Amanda Hanson, Jake Konesky, Patterson and Nick Wood will all be honored as outgoing Ice Hawks seniors.
