Charles “Chuck” Sherman Elder, 62, died Tuesday morning at his home in Havre due to health complications.
Cremation has taken place and his memorial service will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 17, 2009, at the Wasson Funeral Home Chapel in Siloam Springs, Ark. Interment of the cremated remains will be held at Fiarmont Cemetery in Siloam Springs, Ark., next to his parents. Local arrangements have been entrusted to Holland & Bonine Funeral Home and the Wasson Funeral Home in Siloam Springs. Chuck was born Oct. 24, 1946, in Gentry, Ark., to Darrell and Mary Ethel (Bayley) Elder. He was one of six children and grew up in the south. He traveled with his family each summer to work the fields. He earned his bachelor’s degree in Education from the University of Arkansas. He taught high school history and coached for one year. He later went to work in Denver and then Orlando, Fla., for Corning Glasswares. He married Walda Scott and together they had one son Shane. The couple later divorced. Chuck came to Havre in 1990 taking a job opportunity as an insurance agent for North Central Agency, working for Don Meyer and Maybelle Avilia. North Central Agency was sold to Koefod Insurance Agency and Chuck became the crop insurance manager there until his death. Chuck enjoyed watching sports on television he was a huge NFL fan and was an avid reader until he lost his eye sight. He always used a dollar bill as his book mark. He also enjoyed showing off his recent photos of his family. His greatest joy was being reunited with his son after many years. He was preceded in death by his parents. Chuck is survived by his son Shane (Erin) Tripcony; his granddaughter Shelby Tripcony and grandson Garrett Tripcony all of Little Rock, Ark.; nephews: Mjr. Jeff Guimarin of Newport, R. I., Chris Guimarin of Denver, Colo., Ryan Elder of Grove, Okla., Brian Elder of Grove, Okla., Eric Elder of Bluffton, S. C., Jeremy Dawdy and Spencer Dawdy both of Fayetteville, Ark.; one niece: Mary Lee Elder of Centerton, Ark.. His five siblings: Rex Lee Elder of Siloam Springs, Ark., Leslie David Elder of Jay, Okla., Shirley Jones of Kansas, Okla., Carol Guimarin of Denver, Colo., and Una Faye Dawdy of Sprindale, Ark.; and numerous great nieces and nephews.
