Edward Joseph “Eagle Boy” LaMere of Box Elder, Mont., died in Great Falls on March 1, 2009, at 9:50 p.m.
A traditional Native American wake is under way at the Rocky Boy Catholic Church. A funeral Mass will be today at 10 a.m. at the church with the Rev. Pete Guthneck presiding. Burial will follow at the Rocky Boy Cemetery. Edward was born April 11, 1981, to Arthur Joseph LaMere and Dawn Marie St. Marks Azure in Havre. He was Native American, a member of the Chippewa Cree Tribe of Rocky Boy. Edward attended grade school at Dodson Elementary and Box Elder School, graduating from high school in Box Elder, where he lived most of his life. His hobbies included fixing up and driving his cars; video games, Live Texas Hold ’Em, watching movies, breeding and raising pit bulls, collecting guns and swords and Hanging with his mother, sister, his niece Diamond and extended family and friends. His life long dream was to play professional football and he started this dream when he was awarded a college scholarship to play football. He was involved in a car accident in 1997 with life long friend and brother Chris Parisian. He is preceded in death by his grandfathers Ted LaMere, Joseph Azure, William Morsette Sr., uncle Timothy Azure, and cousin Dolan Sunchild He is survived by his sisters: Tia St. Marks, Chantel Azure, Delilah Murphy, Leslie LaMere, Serenity Parisian, Marisa Friede his brothers Brian (Shay Lee) LaMere; his grandmothers: Ramona Azure, Mary Jane LaMere, Delia M. Morsette ; special aunties Monica Alexander, Vicki Azure, Sandra Azure, Hannah Morsette; Nonie LaMere; his nieces Diamond LaMere, Elliona Azure; Brittany Belgarde; Nephew Brandan Belgarde. Also surviving are his godparents, Mark Azure and Lois Potter.
