Lloyd Roland Friede, 78, of Chinook, passed away Easter Sunday, April 12, 2009, at the Benefis Healthcare in Great Falls after a short illness.

Funeral services were held on Friday, April 17, 2009, 11 a. m. in the American Lutheran Church, with burial following in Kuper Memorial Cemetery with military honors. Memorials may be sent to the Gift of Life Housing, Benefis Healthcare in Great Falls, Mont. Arrangements are by Edwards Funeral Home of Chinook. Lloyd was born June 29, 1930, to Mary (Kimsey) and Otto Friede in Chinook. He lived east of Chinook until entering the U.S. Army in July 1951. He served in the Korean War until July 1953. He worked for the Fish & Game Department in the Glasgow area until returning to Chinook in 1955. He then started working at Speer's John Deere Implement until it closed in the summer of 1972. At that time American Energy began building the Northern Natural Gas Plant south of Chinook. He worked for the company until completion, then started working for Northern Natural as a mechanic and continued until his retirement in 1986. In the spring of 1955, he met Ruth E. Humble and the couple married in Parma, Idaho March 8, 1957. To the union were born three children, Pam, Steve and Lynda. Lloyd was a farmer and rancher who loved his farm and cattle. His passion was to be on the farm, doing whatever needed to be done. He repaired many tractors and small engines in the area. Local farmers and ranchers will sorely miss him. He also repaired many of the lawnmowers now cutting grass in the Chinook area. Another of Lloyd's passions was to repair and restore tractors to their original state. There are many of these tractors being used around the area. He is survived by his wife, Ruth Friede of Chinook; daughters, Pam Kuhr of Havre and Lynda Friede of Des Moines, Iowa; and son, Steve Friede of Bozeman. He is also survived by his grandchildren and greatgrandchildren, Melissa (Jim) Litzinger and Kaeden, Jurgen (Sarah) Kuhr, and Alivia, Lucas (Jennifer) Kuhr, Katie Kuhr (Jared Williams), Philip Kuhr, Sheila Kuhr (Dale Young) and Dylan Kuhr. He is also survived by his sisters, Dorothy Molyneaux of Havre and Donna Anderson of Chinook and brothers Harry Friede, Glenn Friede both Chinook and Gordon Friede of Lovell, Wyo, He is preceded in death by his parents, Otto and Mary; brothers, Kenny, Neil, Ray and Norman; sisters Marjorie Feis,t and Evelyn Friede, and a grandson Matthew Paul Kuhr.
