Timothy Pierre Riotutar, 47, of Santa Cruz, Calif., passed away on Saturday, Dec. 27, 2008.
Timothy’s wake was held Tuesday, Jan. 6, 2009, at the Rocky Boy Catholic Church with Native American and Catholic services. Native American services were officiated by Russell Standing Rock and Catholic services were officiated by Father Pete Guthneck. Burial will be today, Jan. 7, 2009, located on Lookout Hill Road in Rocky Boy, Mont. Survivors include his "one and only" son, Timothy “Tim" Nathaniel Riotutar-Calomiris of Fresno, Calif.; his loving mother, Mary Rose St. Pierre- Riotutar of Capitola, Calif.; uncle, George St. Pierre of Rocky Boy, Mont.; brothers, Rafael “Big Boy” (Chavela) Riotutar of Santa Cruz, Calif., Theodore “Teddy” Riotutar of Hilo, Hawaii, and Bruce (Linda) Riotutar of Watsonville, Calif.; sisters, Frances (Jim) Morsette of Rocky Boy, Tina (Ron) Sakamoto of Lawai, Hawaii, Melissa (Sharky) Tabag of Watsonville, Calif., and Peggy (Domie) Riotutar-Aquino of Rocky Boy; adopted brothers, Jim Funaro of Washington; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins; extended families of Rocky Boy; and close family friend, Father Scott McCarthy of California. Tim was born Sept. 20, 1961, in Santa Cruz, Calif., the son of Rafael Sr. And Mary Rose (St. Pierre) Riotutar, and the youngest of nine children. Tim was raised in Santa Cruz where he attended Del Mar School and Soquel High School. Tim most recently resided on the Rocky Boy Indian Reservation with family and attended Stone Child College. Tim was a loving father, son, nephew, brother, uncle, cousin and friend. He was loved by all and loved his family. Tim was a sociable and charming personality and anyone that came into his life was touched by his kindness, sense of humor, smile and laughter. He will be greatly missed. Tim loved to spend time with his mother. They enjoyed taking long walks and having meals together. He cherished listening to his mom tell stories of her childhood. Tim was proud of both his Filipino and Native American heritage. He inherited his father’s art of cooking and he could easily tell jokes while cooking adobo. Tim was a master in beadwork. As a youth he would share his culture by performing his Native American Fancy Dance in the Santa Cruz County Schools. Tim loved his motorcycle and dirt bikes. Later in life, his interest turned to riding quads. Tim excelled in all sports, especially in soccer. He was accomplished in martial arts and was the youngest in Santa Cruz to earn a brown belt in karate. As an avid body surfer he loved the ocean and was a great swimmer. Tim loved to listen to music and kick it. Tim loved to cruise around in his cars or bikes. He was very proud of his certifications, training and work in forestry as a firefighting crew boss. He was preceded in death by his father, Rafael Matias Riotutar Sr., and brother, Brian Hunter Riotutar.
