Baucus selects top staff members

Montana Sen. Max Baucus has selected two new top staff members in his Washington office. The s i x - t e rm U. S . S ena to r announced today that Capitol Hill veteran Jon Selib will serve as his new chief of staff and that Melstone, Mont., native Paul Wilkins will serve as his legislative director. Selib takes the reins as Baucus’ top staff member after Jim Messina was picked for a job in the White House. Selib previously served in Baucus’ office as legislative director, the post now filled by Wilkins. “Jon and Paul are two of the most talented guys I’ve worked with,” said Baucus, Montana’s longest-serving U.S. senator. “They both understand our mission: to do what’s right for Montana and represent our people to the very best of our ability. I have no doubt they’ll serve Montanans well.” I n a d d i t i o n t o h i s Washington, D.C., office, Baucus has seven offices in Montana with a personal staff of more than 40. About Jon Selib: Selib, 33, has worked for Baucus since 2001, when he served as a law clerk on the Senate Finance Committee. Selib held the position of tax counsel on the Senate Finance Committee before being named as Baucus’ legislative director in 2006. Selib earned a bachelor’s degree from Trinity College in Connecticut in 1997, as well as a law degree from American University in Washington, D.C., in 2003. About Paul Wilkins: Wilkins, 28, was born and raised on a sheep ranch near Melstone. He has worked for Baucus in Washington since October 2005, when he was chosen as a Sean Michael Miles Memorial Fellow. He became Baucus’ legislative assistant for natural resources issues in 2006. Wilkins earned a bachelor’s degree in political science from Gonzaga Unive rs i t y i n Washington State in 2002. He earned a master’s degree in economics from Fordham University in New York in 2004.
