Havre High senior Jeremy Jensen has spent the last four years making a name for himself on the Blue Pony golf team, but next year Jensen hopes to further his career and make a name for himself at the college level. Jensen has signed to play golf for the SWAC North Idaho College Cardinals in Idaho. And finding a school that offered everything Jensen was looking for on and off the course wasn’t a problem. “The campus is really cool.” Jensen said. “And that is what basically attracted me to there, was the campus.” With a 3.2 GPA through his four years of high school, Jensen also has what it takes to make it in the classroom. While golf is his main focus, a degree in accounting will also be in the works. “The education is good.” Jensen said. “But I really want to go down there and win some college tournaments. And hopefully make it to the national tournament. Some people give up athletics after high school, but I definitely want to keep going.” Choosing to play for the Cardinals in Idaho presents more opportunities for Jensen than he might find at other schools. Division I schools in both Idaho and Washington surround NIC, and those schools keep a close eye on surrounding athletes. If Jensen finds the same success at the college level as he did in high school, he could be recruited and take his golf career one step higher. “I want to move on to one of the DI schools.” Jensen said. “And they will pick you up after your two years if they like how you play.” If the opportunity presents itself, Jensen hopes to be noticed by Gonzaga or Washington State University among others. Jensen’s accomplishments in high school are the reason why so many doors have been opened. In his four years of Pony golf, Jensen has received a varsity letter the last three years, and has been named the Hi-Line athlete of the week five times. And amongst being the Central A champion twice, Jensen placed eighth at state as a junior and third at state this year as a senior. Getting to continue an athletic career is something a lot of high school seniors dream of. And with Jensen’s high school accomplishments fueling his new goals, NCAA Division I golf could be just around the corner. “I want to first of all make the varsity team.” Jensen said. “And then hopefully win enough matches to make it to the National Tournament. It’s the competition. I know I can do it at the high school level; I want to do it at the college level too. I just want to get back to competition, further my game and bring it to a division one school.”
