Patrick “Pat” John McMaster, 53, of Chinook, died Jan. 25, 2010, after a brief fight with lung cancer. A funeral Mass will be offered Saturday, Jan. 30, 2010, at 11 a.m. in St. Gabriel’s Catholic Church, Chinook, with burial following in Kuper Memorial Cemetery. Arrangements are by Edwards Funeral Home of Chinook. Pat was born May 1, 1956, in Havre, Mont., to John and Agnes (Roles) McMaster. He was raised and educated in Chinook, Mont. Pat worked in the oil field from 1974 through 2003 as a derrick hand, sample catcher, chain or motor hand, roughneck, driller, toolpusher and eventually drilling consultant. He then did farming and ranching until July 2009 when he became too ill to work. Pat met Charlene Miller on May 1, 1978, in Lusk, Wyo., They married on March 12, 1992, and later divorced. Pat enjoyed fishing trips to Canada, hunting and playing cards. He especially loved to go to Jackpot, Nev. He was an incredibly gifted craftsman with wood. His easygoing nature, mischievous streak and prankish humor made him a favorite uncle with his many nephews and nieces. He had an incredible talent for storytelling and took great satisfaction knowing that people believed him. Pat was a very independent, loyal, person with a deep, steadfast love for his family and friends. He loved to tease his nieces and nephews, and they enjoyed teasing him right back. He loved his family so much. He was famous for the “PAT LOOK!” He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. Pat is survived by his special friend, Charlene McMaster; a step-son, Aaron Miller; and three step-grandsons, Dylan, Eli and Cooper all of Lusk, Wyo.; mother, Agnes McMaster of Chinook, Mont.; brothers: KL Ed (Thelma) McMaster, Dave (Brenda) McMaster, and Mike (Ronda) McMaster all of Chinook, Mont.; and Merle McMaster of Winslow, Ark.; sisters, Judy (Russ) Rhinehart of Billings, Mont., Susan (Dave) Armstrong of Havre, Mont. Pauly (Perry) Miller of Chinook, Mont., and Marge (Greg) Cosmutto of Winneconne, Wis.; and 28 nephews, 22 nieces, 14 greatnieces and 10 greatnephews, aunts, uncles and cousins, and Pat’s constant companion, his dog, Griz. Pat was preceded in death by his brother, Bill, in 2003; and his Dad, John; in 2005. Memorials may be sent to the Sletten Cancer Research Center in Havre, Mont.; or a memorial of your choice.

As most other people, you couldn't help but just love Pat. He made you laugh, he made you feel like he really did care, yes he would give you the shirt off his back. I am sure Pat and Bill are up there in heaven playing practical jokes on all.
I am happy he did not have to suffer long but sad I didn't get to say good bye to one of the most wonderful friends left in Chinook.
My heart goes out to all his family and Griz.
