Hi-Line residents have a chance to see a blast from the past as a worldclass tribute artist brings a show honoring the King of Rock 'n' Roll to Havre. Ryan Pelton of Nashville, Tenn., will bring his band to Havre Tuesday to perform his “Elvis: Live in Concert” tribute to Elvis Presley in a special fundraising product ion for the Northern Showcase Association. Pelton has become something of a legend himself, regarded by many as the best Elvis tribute artist. "Ryan sells out venues all over the country," said promoter John Raymond of Encore Promotions. Pelton is in the middle of a Montana tour, coming to Havre Tuesday after performing a show tonight in Malta And another Wednesday in Glasgow. He has shows scheduled through November, including a tour in Canada and on the Eastern Seaboard next fall. An 8 p.m. performance in Big Fork Saturday sold out in less than a week, leading to a second show being scheduled for 2 p.m., which also sold out. “You will want to get your tickets early,” Raymond said. Pelton has performed his show around the United States and on four continents and has worked with many musicians who performed with Elvis himself. Those musicians includes Th e J o rd a n a i r e s, Th e Imp e r i a l s , T h e S we e t Inspirations, D.J. Fontana, Charlie Hodge, Jerry Scheff, and Millie Kirkham. Pelton also has worked with members of The Memphis Mafia, the group of close friends and relatives of Presley who worked with him, helping him with security, touring and scheduling, from 1954 until his death in 1977. “American Icon” gives a chronological tribute to Presley. Audience members first will see Pelton performing early works like “Heartbreak Hotel” and “Don't Be Cruel.” The show then moves on to songs from Presley’s movie career, including songs while in costume from shows like “G.I. Blues” and “Blue Hawaii,” ending the first half of the show with the top Presley hit “Can't Help Falling in Love.” The second half starts with Pelton in one of the most famous Elvis Presley costumes, the black leather costume made famous in Presley’s 1968 Comeback Special. Pelton ends that set singing a song he also performed with Celine Dion on “American Idol,” “If I Can Dream.” The final part of the show covers the Las Vegas years of Presley’s career. Pelton covers top Presley hits like “Polk Salad Annie,” “Kentucky Rain, ” “Suspicious Minds” and “In the Ghetto.” Pelton involves the audience in the show, typically shooting teddy bears into the audience with his special “teddy bear gun” while performing the song “Teddy Bear,” putting leis on audience members during the “Blue Hawaii” performance and passing out silk scarves in the later portions of the show.
