The 24th Annual Hi-Line Invitational Tournament brought some great talent to Havre on Thursday. And with the talent came a lot of offense. At the MSU-Northern Fieldhouse, the HIT tournament got underway on Thursday with four games. The Class AA girls defeated the Class A girls 89-76, while the Class AA boys defeated the Class A boys 131-96. The Class C girls defeated the Class B girls 124-88, and the Class C boys defeated the Class B boys 93-90. Brian Mulley of Billings West led all scorers with 36 points with the help of nine 3-pointers in the dominating victory. In another blowout performance, the Class C girls handed the Class B girls a 36-point loss. Malta’s Bobbi Knudsen led with 18 points for the Class B and Rachel Ryan from Wolf point added 16. Amanda Reed of Whitehall added 12 points, but the Class C offense was too productive and tough to stop. Jessica Sturm (Winifred/Roy) added 17 and both Megan McCafferty (Belt) and Brittany Curl (Absarokee) finished with 16 a piece. The boys Class C and Class B matchup closed day one with another tight contest. The Class C boys held a substantial lead through the first half, but after being outscored 49-42 in the second half the Class B made a solid run. Big Sandy’s Corbin Pearson knocked down two crucial free throws in the last seconds to ensure the win and also led all scorers with 21 points.
