Esther K. Jones, 87, died Feb. 5, 2010, in Victorville, Calif. She was born on Sept. 4, 1922, to Yetta and Morris Kornberg in Philadelphia, Pa. The family moved to Los Angeles when she was 3 years old. World War II interrupted her college education. She contributed to the war effort by working as a riveter in the aircraft industry. After the war, she gave free reign to her independent spirit and worked her way north at jobs such as migrant fruit picker, waitress and cook. She met Norman A. Jones in Cheyenne, Wyo. They married in 1951 and were blessed with three children. Havre was their home base as they moved around the state with Norman's work in road construction. When the children were old enough to start school, they built the family home at 1010 McKinley Ave. In Havre. Esther worked as a cook in Havre for many years. She was an active member of the VFW Club and the Havre Senior Center. She spent countless hours planning and preparing dinners and generally volunteering. Be it the Hill County Fair, Havre Festival Days or whatever the occasion, you could find her putting in more than her share of time cooking, manning a booth or doing whatever was called for. She loved to see and visit with old friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Norman; her parents; one brother, Harry; one sister, Sylvia; two brothersin- law, Raymond and Ernest; and one sister-in-law, Liz. She is survived by her children, Deborah (Ward) Fleming of Mountain Home, Ark., Rory (Holly) Jones of Laurel, Mont., and Norma Jones; five grandchildren, Tobias Jones of Seattle, Wash., Amanda Powell of Laurel, Mont., Matthew (Andrea) Jones of Billings, Mont., Ryan (Becky) Jones of Billings, Mont., and Keely (Tyler Peterson) Jones of Billings, Mont.; three greatgrandchildren, Nikitia Durney, Trinitee Powell and Oliver Jones; two brothers, Jack (Miriam) Kornberg and Ed Kornberg; one sister, Gloria Kahn; and many nieces and nephews in the greater Los Angeles area. Her family will celebrate her life with a memorial service which will be held later in the spring in Havre, Mont.
