Havre City Council met Monday night to vote on five property tax extensions and the pet ordinance that the Ordinance Committee has been working on this summer.
The property taxes are to be used on such civil maintenance as street repair and solid waste management. They were voted on and approved quickly.
Then Ordinance 870, the pet ordinance, was introduced.
During the council’s first read-through, Councilman Bob Kaul and Finance Director Lowell Swenson brought up a couple of discrepancies they noticed that turned out to be typographical errors.
Mayor Tim Solomon suggested that the fines demanded of ordinance violators should be taken out of the ordinance itself and placed in a resolution, so they could be changed more easily if necessary.
Considering these changes, the council voted to wait for all of the changes to be made to the ordinance.
The pet ordinance will be voted on at the next City Council meeting Oct. 4 at 7 p.m.
