HARLEM — More lopsided wins and losses were recorded on the Hi-Line over the weekend.
And after a less than pleasant homecoming game, the Class 2B Harlem Wildcats were defeated 35-0 by the Plentywood Wildcats on Friday in Harlem. With the loss, Harlem dropped to 0-3 in conference play and 1-5 overall. With the win, Plentywood remained undefeated in the conference and moved to 2-0.
Though Harlem was eventually blown out on Friday, the first half of play was tight.
Harlem gave up a touchdown on Plentywood’s first possession of the game to go down 7-0. But the rest of the first half the Harlem defense wouldn’t budge. On Plentywood’s next six drives, the Harlem defense would force three punts, a turnover on downs and two other turnovers. In the second quarter Harlem recovered a fumble and Harlem’s Bud Buck even got an interception.
But while the Harlem defense thrived in the first half, the offense struggled to get anything going.
In the first half Harlem punted the ball four times. The Wildcats also gave up the ball after failing to convert on fourth down as well as coughing up the ball on two interceptions and a fumble.
But after leading just 7-0 through the first half, it was only a matter of time before Plentywood’s offense began to operate.
Plentywood scored 14 points in the third quarter and 14 points in the fourth to go up 35-0 over Harlem. And Plentywood’s Matt McCoy was the biggest factor. McCoy rushed for four touchdowns and threw one more to Jarred Marsh. McCoy’s rushing touchdowns came from six yards, 16 yards, seven yards and from 15 yards out.
Friday the Harlem Wildcats will face Glasgow in Harlem in another conference matchup.

Valier 61, Big Sandy 55

But not on the receiving end, it was the Class C Six-Man Big Sandy Pioneers falling in an upset loss at home.
On Friday in Big Sandy, the Valier Panthers handed the No.5 Pioneers their first loss of the season in a   shootout. The Panthers defeated the Pioneers 61-55, and with the loss the Pioneers are now 3-1 in league play, and 4-1 overall.
Neither team played a whole lot of defense, but both squads got career days from their backfield.
The key factor in the Pioneer's loss came by one Koby Hawke. His numbers were impressive for any level, and the Pioneers couldn’t stop him. On the night, Hawke racked up an astounding 404 rushing yards as well as eight total touchdowns. Hawke was on the receiving end of a 35-yard touchdown pass, but rushed for the other seven. He had rushing scores from three, 28, 66, 20 and 26 yards out, as well as two more from 44-yards out.
The Pioneer's Ryan Miller also had a career night, but was slightly overshadowed as the Pioneers fell on Friday.
Miller racked up 378 yards on 32 carries and found the endzone on seven different occasions. Miller rushed for scores from 20, 47, six, four, two and 12-yards out in a valiant effort to keep the Pioneers undefeated.
The Pioneers trailed 43-28 at halftime, but made the game tight late, scoring 17 points in the final two quarters. But they couldn't sacore the go-ahead TD at the end of the game.
On Saturday the Pioneers will take to the road where they will face the rival North Star Knights in Rudyard.
