The Havre City-County Airport heard mixed opinions on whether it would be better to switch the Havre Essential Air Service destination from Billings to a direct flight to Denver.
The flight now departs Havre and stops in Lewistown and Billings en route to Denver. Great Lakes Airlines, the Essential Air Service provider, has proposed switching to a flight to Denver with one stop in Riverton, Wyo., and using a 30-passenger plane instead of the 19-passenger plane now in service on the route.
People made mixed comments, with some saying the connection to Billings provides a valuable service to visit friends and relatives as well as for appointments such as with medical specialists in the city.
Others said connecting directly with Denver would provide a much better option, both for the Havre flyers in general as well as for recruitment of employees and businesses and for making business trips.
Havre Mayor Tim Solomon, a member of the board, said Great Lakes will need to know the board’s decision on which plan to use by next Tuesday so the plan could be implemented by Great Lakes’ Nov. 1 schedule.
