She was born in Garrison, N.D., on Jan. 14, 1919, the daughter of Melvin J. Gates and Tressie Allen.
The family moved to Havre, where Margaret attended Havre High School and graduated with the Class of 1937.
On June 17, 1939, she married Donald E. Lamey.
While raising their two children, Margaret and her husband, Don, operated a small, neighborhood grocery store for three years. She later worked at Brown's Hardware, then went to manage the cosmetic department at Morrison Drug. She ended her career at Oliver's women's clothing shop.
Margaret often spoke fondly of the friendships formed during her work career.
In 1981, she and Don started spending time in Mesa, Ariz., eventually settling there to enjoy retirement in the sunshine.
Margaret was a voracious reader, always eager to share books and ideas. She was a generous and gracious lady. For her children's friends and extended family, her house was like a second home.
