Jury can't reach verdict in Vaughn shooting death
GREAT FALLS (AP) — A Great Falls jury was unable to reach a verdict in the case of a Vaughn man charged with shooting another man to death in June 2009.
A mistrial was declared in 49-year-Clay Dunbar's deliberate homicide trial Friday after the jury said it had reached an impasse in its deliberations.
Cascade County Attorney John Parker immediately moved to retry the case sometime after the beginning of next year.
Dunbar was charged with shooting 45-year-old Keith Peterson as Peterson knocked on the door to his house after the two men had fought. The Great Falls Tribune reports the jury was unable to decide if Dunbar's claim of self defense was justified.
