Seidel is victim of unfair attacks
Editor:
Well, I see the campaign silly season is once again upon us.
Recently, the Montana Republican Legislative Campaign Committee sent out an "independent expenditure" post card to voters in HD 34 portraying Dana Sapp Seidel as the person responsible for all of our nation's perceived ills and a good portion of the problems in Montana, besides.
Good heavens! Dana is running to represent just over 9,000 residents of Hill and Blaine counties in the Montana legislature. She hasn't even been in office yet, and the Montana Republican Party attacks her for the federal deficit and the national recession. Holy cow!
I would't put it past some of the Helena crowd in my own party to do the same kind of thing. I've let the political wunderkinds in Helena know in no uncertain terms that I simply don't like that kind of campaign.
As a resident and voter in HD 34, I prefer a person who has developed a genuine level of communication with her voters as she has campaigned throughout her district. When I agreed to support Dana Sapp Seidel for HD 34, she assured me her three priorities would be her constituents, her constituents and her constituents.
I believe she is firmly grounded in that commitment, and she continues to prove it every day. As I complete 30 years of public service devoted to the residents of north-central Montana, I have thought about the hallmark of civil political campaigns in our area.
The late Rep. Francis Bardanouve, D-Harlem, and his challenger Maida McCartney, R-Chinook, went out on the campaign trail together to visit with voters. They demonstrated that the voters have more in common than that which divides them. I realize none of us may ever measure up to the genuine grace these two great Montanans showed every day of their lives. But it certainly is a standard we should aspire to. There is no doubt the campaign tactics of the Montana Republican Party and their special- interest allies against Dana Sapp Seidel are the exact polar opposite of the Bardanouve-McCartney standard.
Please join me in supporting one of our own, Dana Sapp Seidel for House District 34
