As the Havre High football team prepares for its last game of the season, playoff seeding is on the line.
As of now, the Blue Ponies are tied with the Belgrade Panthers as the No. 2 team in the Central A. Both teams sit at 3-1 in conference play, and face off on Friday night in Havre.
This season the Ponies have struggled at home. But knowing what is on the line, the Ponies are hoping for a much improved home performance.
If the Ponies can win on Friday they will claim the No. 2 spot outright. But if the Ponies are defeated, they will drop down to the third spot.
Either way, the Ponies have locked up a spot in the playoffs after their dominating win in Livingston last Friday, but are still playing for the best case scenario.
With a No. 2 seed heading into the playoffs, the Ponies will host a first-round game against the No. 3 team out of the East which will either be Sidney or Laurel. And if the Ponies lose, they will take to the road and face the No. 2 team out of the East which will likely mean a rematch with Miles City.
Even though the Ponies have thrived on the road this season, they are hoping for a first round game at home, where they can play on their own turf and in front of their own fans.
But no matter what happens Friday night, the Blue Ponies are just happy to be controlling their own destiny.
“It’s nice,” Christenson said. “We control our own destiny from here and we don’t have to rely on anybody else. Now we just have to play another game for second and third and to see whether we play on the road or at home. It’s just nice because we now know we are in the playoffs, now we just have to play to see where we are at.”
The Ponies will host the Belgrade Panthers on Friday at the Blue Pony Stadium at 7 p.m.
