Pauline Bridges, 70, died Oct. 17, 2010, at her residence in Rocky Boy, of natural causes. Her wake service began Monday, Oct. 18, and Tuesday Oct. 19, at Rocky Boy Lutheran Church. Her funeral service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 20, 2010, at Rocky Boy Lutheran Church, with Kenny Writing Bird officiating. Burial will follow at Rocky Boy Cemetery. Services and arrangements have been entrusted to Holland & Bonine Funeral Home.
Pauline was born in Great Falls, Mont., to Tom and Maggie Arkinson. She was the oldest of eight siblings. She resided on the Rocky Boy reservation most of her life, attending Haystack School, but also had the opportunity to travel extensively while married to her husband Adolph Bridges, visiting and living in Europe, China, Germany and the Philippines. Pauline was a member of the Native American Church. She enjoyed all traditional ceremonies, including the Sundance, powwows and round dances. She was employed by Rocky Boy Head Start for many years, also employed by the 4B’s.
Pauline enjoyed playing Bingo, cards and watching the Temptations and getting the privilege to meet them in person. She also enjoyed family gatherings at her home, getting visitors from all over the United States and Canada. Pauline displayed class wherever she went, always a true and upstanding lady.
Preceding her in death were her parents, Tom and Maggie Arkinson; her longtime companion, Floyd Old Bull; her brothers, Eddie, Gary and James Arkinson; her sisters, Merceline and Donna Arkinson, Darlene Belgarde; her nephews, Dean Ray Small and Chief Standing Rock; her nieces, Yvette Belgarde and Lacey Arkinson; her grandchildren, Lendell Gopher and Gage Deschamps.
Pauline is survived by one brother, Earl (Elaine) Arkinson of Rocky Boy, Mont.; her sisters, Marlene (Larry) Piapot of Rocky Boy, Mont., and Arlene Arkinson of Great Falls, Mont.; adopted sisters, Pearl Whitford, Joyce Four Souls, Francis Top Sky, all of Rocky Boy, Mont.; adopted brothers, Andrew Tso, Leo Toadlena, Joe and Robert Pickett and Chuck Two Teeth. Her granddaughter, Latoya and numerous nieces and nephews.
