The Montana State University-Northern wrestling team has been on a state-wide tour, competing in a pair of scrimmages in Ronan, last Thursday and Glasgow on Monday night.
Tonight however, it's the home fans' turn. The Lights will hold their third and final Maroon/Gold Dual tonight at 7 at the MSU-Northern Fieldhouse.
And while it's an intra-sqad scrimmage, tonight's dual holds plenty of significance for several Lights, and head coach Tyson Thivierge.
"It should be pretty exciting," Thivierge said. "There's four matches where starting spots are up for grabs, so those matches should be really fun to watch.
"And we're going to wrestle some other guys who, even though those spots are set, still need some more competition, just to get ready for Oct. 29. So it should be a really competitive night."
At 133 pounds, Havre Blue Pony Ryan Shelstad will take on Ronan freshman Cameron Neiss for the starting spot. At 141 pounds, Demitrios Mitchell and Garret Tennant, a former Glendive standout will battle for a third time this fall, with the winner taking the No. 1 spot in that weight. The two freshmen have already wrestled two very good matches and tonight's rubber match should be no different.
The 149-pound and 157-pound weights are also on the line tonight. At 149, Anthony Weerheim and Brandon Leliefeld will go at it, and Tay Todd and Cody Miller will take to the mat to compete for the 157-pound starting spot.
Also competing in the dual will be former Havre Blue Pony Ethan Hinebauch, who will be MSU-N's 165-pounder. Hinebauch will take on freshman Jared Miller tonight. At 197 pounds, Nick King and starter Kody Reed will wrestle, while starting heavyweight Rudy Shaffroth will wrestle freshman Devin Norland for a third time tonight.
There will also be three exhibition matches on the card. Mickey Cheff will face James Petersen, Derek Rogers will wrestle Cole Gorder and Travis DuMont will face Gary Anthony.
The Lights will have one last warmup before their Oct. 29 opener against North Idaho College. On Saturday, MSU-N will hold its annual Alumni Dual at 1 p.m. The Lights host North Idaho at 7 p.m. on Oct. 29.
