There are plenty of things to do and see when it comes to sports at Montana State University-Northern. But rarely can a fan do and see so much in one day.
However, that will be the case on Saturday as Northern holds all of its annual Alumni Games in just one day.
Kicking things off on Saturday at the MSU-Northern Fieldhouse will be the annual Alumni Dual. Every year, the annual wrestling event is the final tune up for the Northern wrestling team, and because of rich tradition in wrestling at Northern, the dual is always very competitive.
This year's dual should be exciting with 11 matches panned to start at 1 p.m. Competing for the Alumni team this year will be Cory Borges, a two-time NAIA national champion and three-time All-American, Bobby Mantle, an All-American in 2003, Rudy James, an All-American in 1997 and 1999, Abel Valdez an All-American in 2000 and 2001, Dustyn Azure an All-American in 2001 and 2005, Dan Eaves, Evan Mattingly, an All-American last season, Dane Jacobsen, an All-American in 2001 and former Chester High standout and three-time All-American Mitch Overlie.
After the past Northern greats battle the Lights on the mat, volleyball will hit the court at 4 p.m.
The Alumni team in volleyball should, like the wrestling team be very competitive on Saturday afternoon.
The Northern Alumni will be composed of Jeanelle (Gillies) Merja, Tanja (Bruski) Hueiser, Christine (Smith) Hamilton, Jeana McPherson, Julie Henderson, Tara (O’haire) Yantzi, Katy (Engstrom) Saisbury, Lisa (Hagen) Berry and Tamecia (Watkins) Jarvis. Also in attendance will be Emi (Sasaki) Smith, Melanie (Baack) Jenkins, Autum (Baack) Elliot, Christi (Mintz) Carlson, Kim (Schmauch) Tommerup, Tammy (Mitchell) Boles.
Saturday night will feature the always exciting Alumni basketball games.
At 6 p.m., the current MSU-N Skylights will take to the floor to square off against a solid alumni team. This will be MSU-N's only preseason game before the Skylights open their season next Thursday at home.
