David V. Briere
David V. Briere, 61, of Havre, Mont., passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, Oct. 19, 2010, in Spokane, Wash. Vigil services will be Friday, Oct. 22, at 7 p. m., at St. Jude Thaddeus Catholic Church in Havre.
Funeral Mass will be Saturday, Oct. 23, at 11 a. m. at St. Gabriel's Catholic Church in Chinook, with burial following in Kuper Memorial Cemetery. The time of services were incorrect in Thursday's newspaper. Arrangements are by Edwards Funeral Home of Chinook.
David was born Sept. 20, 1949, in Harlem, to Dave and Lucille "Sis" (Liberty) Briere. He attended school in Chinook, where he graduated in 1967. 
He started his military career as a Navy personnel man May 13, 1968. His Navy tour ended Jan. 26, 1973. He then joined the Montana Army National Guard, Nov. 14, 1974. During his 41 years of military service, he completed many assignments and logged numerous credit hours. Some of his most notable awards and decorations include the Army Commendation Medal, Navy Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Humanitarian Service Medal, Navy Meritorious Unit Commendation Medal and the Montana National Guard Campaign Medal.
David retired from the military in September 2009 as master sergeant. In addition to being a member of the Montana National Guard, David worked for Havre Pipeline Company as a measurement technician for 37 years.
In 1973, David married Robin Wilson and to this union three children were born. They later divorced, and on Oct. 12, 1985, he married Geraldine (Jere) Bautch. They had just celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary. Some of the things David enjoyed were bowling and fishing, but most of all, spending time with his family and grandchildren.
He was a member of the Chinook Eagles Club 689 and was also a lifetime member of the VFW Post 4620.
David is survived by his wife, Jere, and their beloved dog, Shih Tzu China of Havre; daughter Deanne Briere of Harlem; sons, Benjamin and his wife, Wendy, also of Harlem, and Jeffrey of Havre; grandson, Austin of Helena; granddaughters, Ryanne and Raelynne of Harlem, and Mackenzie of Mississippi; five sisters, Billie (Bob) Watkins of Sebring, Fla., Jackie (David) Schmidt of Glendive, Mont., Pam (Rob) Darrah of Chinook, Bridgette Briere of Chinook, and JoLynn (Brad) Russell of Chinook; and brother-in-law, Larry (Joyce) Bautch of Garfield, Minn., and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, Dave and Sis.
