The Northern Showcase Concert Association is ready to begin another season in Havre, with blues performer Spencer Bohren of New Orleans set to kick off the performances Tuesday, Nov. 2.
A season ticket to the concerts, put on by the combination of the former Northern Showcase Association and Hi-Line Community Concert Association, offers seven shows in Havre including either the fall or spring production of Montana Actors’ Theatre, as well as reduced prices to shows put on by other associations around the state.
The first performer is a world-traveling musician with a show focused on the blues, folk, gospel and country music of the American South. Bohren will make Havre his first stop in a Montana tour after finishing performances in Wyoming, ending November with a performance in Portland before returning to his home town of New Orleans for shows there. He is scheduled to perform in Germany and Switzerland next spring.
Bohren is slated to perform in the Havre High School auditorium Tuesday, Nov. 2, from 7:30 to 9:30 p. m.
The next show, set for Thursday, Nov. 18, at the Fifth Avenue Christian Church in Havre starting at 7:30 p. m., features a tribute to a legendary pioneering pianist.
Jason Coleman will perform “The Legacy of Floyd Cramer, ” sharing the music and memories of his grandfather, who was credited with helping create “The Nashville Sound, ” a merging of country and pop music.
In December, the association is bringing a statewide holiday favorite to Havre with the performance of the Montana Holiday Spectacular by the Rocky Mountain Ballet Theatre of Missoula. The performance is scheduled to start at 7:30 p. m. Dec. 4 in the Havre High School auditorium.
The shows kick off in 2011 with the Singing Sons of Beaches, set to perform Feb. 26 at 7:30 p. m. in the Student Union Building Ballroom at Montana State University-Northern. The group comprises three Montana vocalists, accompanying themselves on acoustic guitars and providing a variety of original songs focused on the places and people of Montana in their musical comedy show.
On April 14 at 7:30 p. m. at the First Lutheran Church, a trio will perform selections in the show “Baroque and Brahms. ” German-born organist, harpsichordist and pianist Thomas Strauss, German-born violinist Irina Mueller and United States native horn player Nick Murdock will bring their skills that have been shown on the international scene to perform a variety of selections including solo and duo works for the horn, violin and organ or piano.
The final concert will be the Tim Ryan Band, starting at 7:30 p. m. in the Havre High School auditorium April 26. The band features Tim Ryan along with Mission Mountain Wood Band members Rob Quist and Christian Johnson.
