For 39 minutes Friday night in Las Vegas, it looked as though the Montana State University-Northern men's basketball team was poised to exact some revenge for its 2008 NAIA national tournament overtime loss to Robert Morris of Illinois. Instead, the Lights got more heartache.
Leading by two points with just seconds left in Friday night's NAIA showdown, the No. 25 Lights were called for a foul on an attempted Robert Morris 3-pointer, and after all three free throws were made by the Eagles, they had a 78-77 win. The Eagles came into the game ranked fourth in NAIA Division I, and while the Lights had one last shot to win the game, MSU-N's Joe Simpson was called for an offensive foul which sealed Northern's fate. MSU-N 4-2 will play again in Las Vegas on Saturday when the Lights take on Vanguard University.
