Finance committee purchases new tub truck
The Havre City Council Finance Committee held a quick meeting reviewing city expenditure of a different sort Monday night. Members considered six bids on a new truck to haul the large tan “tub” dumpsters around Havre and decided to purchase one.
The bid the committee accepted came from Olympia Sales Inc., for a new truck with an Ampliroll Hook Lift system, for $106,900.
The city chose to take an optional $385 traction lock add-on to allow the truck better ability to handle conditions in Havre, particularly if the dump site is muddy. The total sale price then is $107,285.
The new truck will be an improvement over the old one, not only in reliability, but in the new Ampliroll system, members said.
The current trucks require the driver to get out of the truck and attach a cable to the tub to pull it onto the truck.
The new system will have a boom extend, grab the tub and drag it onto the truck, with little or no outdoor work for the driver.
The new truck will be delivered in the next few months and will gradually be put into use as the city’s 35 trash tubs are modified over the next year to be compatible with the new system.
