HELENA (AP) — Gov. Brian Schweitzer has been named the next president of the Council of State Governments.
The Montana Democrat was announced as the next leader of the council during a meeting Saturday in Providence, R.I. Schweitzer takes over for Republican South Dakota Gov. Mike Rounds as president on Jan. 1.
Schweitzer told Lee Newspapers of Montana that he'll use any contacts he makes through the Council of State Governments or any other organization to try to build the Montana economy.
The council represents legislative, judicial and executive branches of government.
